Telangana top performer, AP ranked last in startup ranking

HYDERABAD: Telangana is ranked as a 'top performer' in the startup ranking, while Andhra Pradesh is ranked last in the sunrise category.
Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on Monday announced the rankings of States on 'Support to Startup Ecosystems'. The Centre has studied and prepared a report on the ecosystems being created by the states to establish startups and released the ranks to the states in which Telangana stands first among the top performers in promoting start-ups.
Based on the talent shown by states (large and small in respect to population) and Union Territories in relation to this startup, they have been classified into five categories — Best Performers, Top Performers, Leaders, Aspiring Leaders, and Emerging Start-up Ecosystems respectively. As part of Startup India, states are ranked based on capacity building, mentoring, funding, incubation, organizational support, market access, innovation, and encouragement to aspiring entrepreneurs. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has announced these ranks based on 100 marks by measuring a total of 26 operational principles.
Accordingly, Gujarat and Karnataka have stood as Best Performers in the rankings announced by the Centre in category A (large state) followed by Telangana, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Odisha as Top Performers; Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Assam as Leaders, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh as Aspiring leaders; and Andhra Pradesh and Bihar as Emerging Startup Ecosystems respectively.
While the rankings in Category B where the population is less than one crore, Meghalaya stood as Best Performer followed by Jammu and Kashmir as top performers; Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, and Goa as leaders. Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Tripura, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Manipur, Nagaland, and Puducherry as Aspiring leaders; Mizoram, and Ladakh as Emerging Start-Up Ecosystem.
The top-scoring States and Union Territories across each of seven reform areas have been recognised as a leader and the rankings are as follows with Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands standing top in Institutional Champion category followed by Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Jammu and Kashmir as Innovative Leader, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya as incubation hub, Gujarat, Karnataka as funding leader, Assam and Meghalaya as Mentor Champion; Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya as Capacity building pioneer.
The report of the Center revealed that there is a strong startup environment in Telangana.
