YS Sharmila invites Jagan to son's wedding, heads to Delhi to join Congress; can she get big deal?
Ahead of Assembly and Lok Sabha elections for Andhra Pradesh to be held in a few months, politics in the state are revolving around YS Sharmila
AMARAVATHI: Ahead of Assembly and Lok Sabha elections for Andhra Pradesh to be held in a few months, politics in the state are revolving around YS Sharmila, the daughter of late Chief Minister YS Rajshekhara Reddy and sister of current Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, as the Congress party is planning to rope in YSRTP president into the party to revive the Congress party Andhra Pradesh.
With the recent victories in Karnataka and Telangana, the grand old party has made its way to enter Andhra Pradesh and called YSRTP president YS Sharmila for talks. She would be meeting AICC president Mallikarjuna Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and other leaders to discuss on the merger of the YSRTP and her joining in Congress. With elections scheduled in Andhra Pradesh in the next two to three months, Sharmila's entry into state politics has become a hot topic.
However, it is yet to be known what position the Congress high command will offer her if she does join the party, which is also generating interest among politicians in Andhra Pradesh.
If the reports are to be believed, YS Sharmila would be given a post in AICC besides making her Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka or the president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress party for the Andhra Pradesh unit. However, it remains to be seen when Sharmila would turn Congress fortunes in Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, YS Sharmila and her family visited the residence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Sharmila, her husband, son, and other family members arrived in Gannavaram from Kadapa by special flight and then went to CM Jagan's residence.
During their meeting, which lasted about half an hour, Sharmila handed over her son Raja Reddy's wedding invitation to Jagan and Bharati. Speaking to the media later, she said she had invited her brother to her son's wedding and said that her brother responded positively. It is reported that there were no political discussions in the meeting.
Further, there was another significant development wherein Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would be meeting former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday as the latter was taking rest following a hip replacement surgery. Although it is reported as a courtesy call, there is a political prominence to the meeting ahead of the Lok Sabha elections for Telangana as well.
