YV Subba Reddy’s sensational demand to continue Hyderabad as common capital until Vizag is ready

AMARAVATHI: Senior YSR Congress leader has sprung a surprise with a sensational demand of continuing a Hyderabad as common capital of Telugu States until a new Capital is made in Visakhapatnam.

Subba Reddy, considered to be in the inner circle of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Tuesday said that Hyderabad be continued as Common Capital. In fact, Hyderabad was declared as the common capital for 10 years, in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

The two States were separated with June 2, 2014 as the effective date.

However, then Chief Minister had the common secretariat vacated after the cash-for-vote case in which present Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was named as an accused after he was caught in video cameras offering wads of currency to Anglo-Indian MLA Elvis Stevenson in 2015 to lure him to vote for the TDP candidate in MLC elections.

Chandrababu Naidu Government, which had made lofty plans for building a capital city in a new place christening it as Amaravathi. He invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for a function where the Prime Minister had laid foundation stone for the new capital.

Meanwhile, the TDP Government had made buildings for Secretariat and Assembly at Velagapudi and announced that they were temporary buildings.

However, there was no progress on the proposed project ever since with the entire process getting mired in a controversy.

After Y S Jagan came to power, he did not want to have Amaravathi as the State Capital. He came up with a proposal to establish three Capitals for Andhra Pradesh with Visakhapatnam as the administrative capital, Kurnool as the seat of Judicial capital and Amaravathi as the Legislative Capital.

However, his plans hit a road block with the idea getting entangled in legal wrangles. However, Jagan has been nursing big plans for Visakhapatnam.

Against this backgroud, Subba Reddy raked up the issue once again with his demand.

He said that he would discuss the issue even in Rajya Sabha. Incidentally, Subba Reddy is one of the three candidates who was fielded by Jagan on behalf of the YSR Congress. All the three candidates are most likely to get elected.

Subba Reddy said that Jagan was giving preference to people belonging to SC, ST, and BC sections of the society to get elected to the Parliament. Describing it as a historic move, Subba Reddy said that all the three candidates of the party would win and the people were strongly desiring that YS Jagan Government should return to power in the State. He said Jagan laid emphasis on welfare schemes.
