VIJAYAWADA: Due to heavy rains in the upper regions, the Prakasam Barrage has filled to capacity, prompting authorities to release large volumes of water.

On Sunday, officials lifted 70 gates of the barrage, releasing 1.18 lakh cusecs of water downstream into the Krishna River. As a precaution, residents of areas along the river have been warned to remain alert to potential flooding.

Meanwhile, Srisailam Reservoir is receiving inflows of 2.17 lakh cusecs from the upper regions. To manage the situation, six gates have been opened, allowing 1.67 lakh cusecs of water to flow downstream through the spillway. An additional 60,000 cusecs are being released for power generation through the right and left bank powerhouses.

Officials have urged residents in low-lying areas along the Krishna River to stay vigilant and follow any advisories issued in the coming days.
