VIJAYAWADA: A 17-year-old blind girl was assaulted and hacked to death by a man named Raju, reportedly under the influence of ganja in Tadepalli on Monday. The incident, which reportedly happened in the close vicinity of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s residence cum camp office in Tadepalli, caused commotion.
According to reports, Esther Rani, a blind girl, was living with her mother in Tadepalli. Accused Raju, a resident of the same locality, had allegedly been harassing Rani for quite some time and was looking for an opportunity to assault her.
On Monday, seeing Rani alone at home, Raju misbehaved with her. As Rani escalated the issue to her mother and aunt, Raju denied the allegations of assault. But within five minutes, he hacked Rani to death with a deadly weapon, reportedly under the influence of ganja.
The distraught family members of Rani are demanding severe punishment for the accused.
Meanwhile, there were reports that Raju was involved in various cases such as an attack on a head constable Venkateswara Rao and a married woman. The locals have expressed concern saying that Raju is resorting to atrocities with the clout he has with some policemen. They feel that the latest incident would not have happened had the police already taken strict action against him.
The Tadepalli police seized the weapon from the scene of the incident and are investigating the case.
