HYDERABAD: Agricultural scientist Dr Ashwini Nunaavath died after she was swept away by floodwaters in Telangana's Mahabubabad district while travelling with her father to Hyderabad airport.

The tragic incident occurred in Maripeda mandal near Purushottamaiahgudem. Due to heavy rains, the Akuru stream overflowed its banks, flooding the bridge they were crossing.

Dr Ashwini and her father, Nunaavath Motilal, residents of Gangaram thanda, Gate Karepalli in Singareni mandal, Khammam district, were on their way to Hyderabad airport to catch a flight for a conference in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. As they attempted to cross the flooded bridge, their car was swept away by the force of the water.

Search and rescue teams were quickly deployed, and Dr. Ashwini's body was later recovered. However, her father remains missing.

Local authorities have continued the search for Motilal, and efforts are underway to locate the vehicle.
