Attack on mother-in-law; man imprisoned for 7 yrs in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) court in Ibrahimpatnam sentenced D. Mahender to 7 years in prison and fined him Rs. 6,000 for trespass and attempting to murder his mother-in-law and daughter.

According to the police, Mahender married the complainant Anuradha in an arranged marriage in 2014, and they had a daughter. However, after a few days of her marriage, the accused began harassing her for additional dowry.

Anuradha mentioned in her police complaint that she and her daughter Meghana moved into her parents' home in Ibrahimpatnam. Mahender broke into her apartment on January 19, 2017, after she left for work.

Mahender attacked Anuradha's mother when the latter questioned his arrival at their house. He attacked his mother-in-law with a blade causing injuries on her neck and stomach. In a fit of rage, he also tried to attack his daughter. The accused fled after her mother Kalavathi's screams prompted her neighbours to rush to the scene.

Based on the above complaint, a case was registered at Ibrahimpatnam police station, and during the investigation, the Inspector K. Lingaswamy, Sub Inspector of Police, gathered evidence, arrested the accused, before remanding him in judicial custody.

The inspector filed a charge sheet after the completion of the case. During the trial on Thursday, the accused was sentenced to seven years in prison.
