HYDERABAD: Morning walk proved fatal for two women and a child who were killed after being hit by a sports car at a high speed at Bandlaguda Jagir in Ranga Reddy district on Tuesday morning. Seven others sustained injuries in the freak accident. Within hours of the accident, the police were able to arrest a 19-year-old youth who was believed to be behind the wheel of the ill-fated car.

The two women killed in the mishap were identified as Anuradha and Mamata while the name of the girl, the third casualty, was not immediately known. As the chilling visuals captured on nearby CCTV cameras showed, the three were on a morning walk early Tuesday. The car, travelling at a high speed, swerved and spun to the side before skidding off and hitting the three women from behind. The impact was so strong that the three went flying in the air before falling in the wayside bushes. The three were killed on the spot while seven others sustained in the accident.

The police, who made a preliminary assessment of the way the mishap occurred, shifted the dead bodies to the government hospital and the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. The condition of a woman injured in the incident is stated to be critical.

The police, during their inspection, found one person trapped inside the car. They are in the process of establishing the identity of the owner of the ill-fated vehicle and whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Within hours of the accident, the Narsingi police arrested a 19-year-old youth identified as Mohammed Badi Uddin Khadri, who was allegedly behind the wheel at the time of the accident. According to police, Khadri is a first-year student of BBA at Avinash College and resides in Shanthi Nagar. As per the visuals from the nearby CCTV cameras, the mishap occurred at 6:11 am.

Reports also claim that he was drunk at the time of the mishap. The youth is said to be driving the car carrying his friends towards Moinabad at around am to celebrate his birthday. Further details are awaited.
