Cherla police arrest fake Maoists for extorting money from businessmen

The police have arrested four people who were collecting money from traders posing themselves as Maoists in Cherla and seized Rs. 2,370 in cash and a fake gun from their possession

KOTHAGUDEM: The police have arrested four people who were collecting money from traders posing themselves as Maoists in Cherla and seized Rs. 2,370 in cash and a fake gun from their possession.

Briefing the media along with SIs TVR Suri and T Venkatappayya, Cherla Circle Inspector B Ashok said that they had apprehended four persons for extorting money from traders by threatening them with a toy gun.

The Circle Inspector said that the accused were Shyamala Ramakrishna (31) of Gannavaram village of Charla Mandal, Shyamala Jalendar (23) of Chinnamidisileru, Shymala Naveen (21) and Tellam Santhosh (22) of C Kothuru.

Stating that a case was registered against them, the police officials appealed to the traders and businessmen not to give money to such people and escalate the matter to the police if anybody threatened them in the name of Maoists.
