VIKARABAD: A Dalit woman in Vikarabad district has accused a police sub-inspector of torture, alleging he beat her demanding information about her son's whereabouts. The incident, reminiscent of the recent Shadnagar case, has sparked outrage and protests by Dalit groups.
Kalavathi, a resident of Navalga village in Basheerabad mandal, alleged that SI Ramesh Kumar has been subjecting her to physical abuse for the past three months. Her son, Lohada Naresh (17), had eloped with a 16-year-old girl from Kasimpur village. The girl's family filed a kidnapping case against Naresh, prompting the police to summon Kalavathi.
According to Kalavathi, SI Ramesh Kumar has repeatedly summoned her to the police station and brutally beaten her with a lathi, demanding her son's address. She claims the beatings have left her with severe injuries on her legs and hands. She further alleges that the police are forcing her to visit the station daily and subject her to further harassment.
Dalit organisations have staged protests demanding action against SI Ramesh Kumar, accusing him of abuse of power and caste-based violence. They have called for a thorough investigation into the incident and stringent punishment for the accused officer.
