Fake police officer apprehended for extorting money in Hyderabad
The accused extorted over Rs 10 lakh from targetting customers who booked call girls.;
HYDERABAD: The North Zone team of Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, in collaboration with Gandhi Nagar Police, apprehended a man posing as a police officer and extorting money from victims.
The suspect, Sunny Jadhav, was arrested based on credible information. Jadhav, 35, resides in Parsigutta, Secunderabad, and works as an insurance agent for Renew Buy Insurance Company in Somajiguda.
In 2017, he was involved in a case of extortion by impersonating a police officer. Recently, Jadhav resorted to criminal activities due to his addiction to online gambling and horse racing, which led to financial distress. In February 2023, he executed his plan at Hotel Marriott in Secunderabad, targeting customers who booked call girls. Displaying a fake police ID card obtained from social media, he threatened the customers with legal action and public exposure unless they paid him money.
Jadhav extorted Rs 5 lakhs and a 2 Tula gold chain from a victim. He continued to harass the victim, extorting an additional Rs 5 lakhs in multiple transactions, resulting in a total extortion of Rs 10 lakhs and the gold chain. Unable to bear the continuous harassment, the victim approached the police, which led to his result, according to DCP Task Force S Rashmi Perumal.
During the arrest, the police seized net cash amounting to Rs 3 lakh, a two-wheeler Activa, and three mobile phones used to commit the offence. All items were valued at Rs 4 lakh. SIs Srinivasulu Dasu, P. Gnanadeep, and B Ashok Reddy of the North Zone Task Force, along with their team, carried out the arrest.
