HYDERABAD: Five people, including a child, were killed in a ghastly road accident after a car they were traveling in overturned and hit by a lorry at Medarametla in the Bapatla district.
The incident occurred while the passengers were returning home after participating in Maha Shivaratri celebrations at midnight on Sunday.
Three women — identified as Sheikh Waheeda Wali, 38, Jayashree, 50, Divya Teja, 29 — and a child Sheikh Ayesha Humerawali, 9, of Gurazala were returning to Guntur from Medarametla in a car along with driver Kondamudi Veera Brahmachari, 22, after completing the darshan at a temple.
However, as the driver fell drowsy, the car, which hit a divider, overturned and rolled on to the other side of the road. In turn, it was hit by a lorry leaving the front part of the car severely damaged. The accident left the five people trapped in the car and the bodies were retrieved by the police.
