VISAKHAPATNAM: As many as five workers were charred to death after a fire broke out from a reactor while cleaning the non-productive block at Laurus Labs Unit 3 in Parawada Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City in Visakhapatnam late on Monday. The officials believe that the fire broke out due to a short circuit.

The deceased were identified as Chemist Bangi Rambabu (32) from Khammam district, Executive T Rajesh Babu (36) from Guntur, Helper Rapeti Ramakrishna from Anakapalli district, K Kotapadu and Helper M Venkatarao from Chodavaram, Anakapalli district. One Edla Satish who is said to have succumbed while receiving treatment at KGH.

The bodies were shifted to KGH mortuary in Visakhapatnam for a post-mortem, while the families of the deceased are in deep sorrow after learning the incident.

Meanwhile, TDP general secretary and MLC Nara Lokesh expressed shock over the Parawada fire incident and extended deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday expressed his shock over the Parawada Pharma City fire accident. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh each to the kin of the five workers who were killed in the mishap.

The Chief Minister also directed the district authorities to extend the best of emergency medical treatment to those who suffered injuries in the industrial fire accident.
