Hyderabad Airport officials seize 14.4 kg gold from Sudan women, four held

HYDERABAD: Officials of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad have seized 14.4-kg Gold jewellery worth Rs. 8 crores from multiple women who arrived at the airport on Thursday.

As many as 23 Sudanese people reached Hyderabad Airport. Customs officials, who were suspicious of these passengers, intercepted them and carried out thorough inspections. The Airport officials found a huge amount of gold from four women.

Despite efforts from the women to bluff the customs officials, they were caught and detained. Reportedly, the women came to Hyderabad only to smuggle gold and had hidden the gold in different places such as in small cavities created in shoes, under the feet and in their clothes.

A case was registered and further investigation was going on.
