Indian Mujahideen operative Syed Maqbool Zuber dies in Hyderabad prison

HYDERABAD: Syed Maqbool Zuber, a 44-year-old operative of the banned terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM), died while undergoing treatment on Thursday.

Zuber, who was based in Nanded, was convicted in a series of blast cases, as well as murder and attempt to murder cases. He was serving his prison term at Cherlapally Central Prison in Hyderabad.

In October 2023, the NIA court in Delhi sentenced Zuber to life imprisonment for his role in the 2013 Dilsukhnagar bomb blast, which resulted in the deaths of 18 people and injuries to over 130 others. Following his sentencing, he was lodged in Central Jail, Delhi. In November 2023, he was transferred to Cherlapally on a transit warrant to serve his prison term for cases reported in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana.

Zuber was a key operative of the IM module and was accused of involvement in multiple blasts across the country during 2006 and 2007. Additionally, he was convicted in murder cases reported in Nizamabad district and Afzalgunj, Hyderabad.
