Man kills 2 kids, attempts suicide over wife's bid for tubectomy

NAGARKURNOOL: In a horrifying incident, a father has killed his two children in Nagarkurnool district. Omkar, a resident of Kudikilla village of Kollapur mandal, stabbed them to death on Wednesday afternoon.

Omkar was travelling on his bike with his wife, Maheswari (23) and two children, Chandana (3) and Vishwanath (1) when the couple picked up an argument. Enraged, the wife attempted to jump off the bike along with the children, but couldn't take the kids along.

According to Kodair Inspector D Yaladri, the husband did not stop. He sped away with the children on his bike, leaving his wife behind. Omkar stopped near Etham village where he mercilessly killed both the children by slitting their throats, before inflicting a similar injury upon himself.

Looking for her husband and children, the wife arrived at the village where she learned about her husband slashing the necks of the two children and himself. Omkar was immediately rushed to a government hospital in Mahabubnagar. He is currently under treatment and his condition is stated to be critical.

Omkar resorted to this extreme step just because Maheswari wanted to go in for a tubectomy procedure after being blessed with two children in their six years of marriage.

Omkar, who was opposed to family planning, resisted the move. Angered by this, Maheswari left him and went to her maternal home with the children. She vowed not to return until Omkar agreed for family planning.

Kodair Circle Inspector D Yaladri told Newstap, "Omkar went to his in-laws' house and told his wife that he was convinced for a family planning operation. He told her to pack her bags and return to him."

"Unfortunately, they argued and fought again on their way to the Mahabubnagar government hospital. The wife requested him to stop the bike because she wanted to return to her maternal home with her children. However, the husband escaped with the children and brutally murdered them. He not only killed his two innocent children but also attempted suicide by slitting his own throat," the inspector said.

"Following the incident, his wife lodged a complaint with us. We are still trying to figure out whether this was planned or committed in a rage, given that he had a knife with him that he used to slit the throats of the children and attempting the same upon himself," the Circle Inspector added.

K Manohar, Superintendent of Police in Nagarkurnool, stated, "It's a family dispute, and it's shocking that the accused killed his two innocent children solely because his wife wanted a tubectomy for family planning after giving birth to two children and Omkar was not interested. This heinous crime is solely the result of anger issues."

A murder case has been registered under Section 302 IPC in Kodair mandal police station in Nagarkurnool district.
