HYDERABAD: In a shocking incident, a woman and her daughter died by suicide reportedly unable to cope with depression in Manikonda of Hyderabad on Friday. The deceased were identified as Alivelu (40) and Lasya (14) who were found hanging from the ceiling at their residence in Andhra Colony.

Raidurg Circle Inspector Mahesh said that the deceased were going through depression for some time now. Reportedly, the duo confined themselves to their house since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of her plan to end her life along with her children, Alivelu sent her husband Sachidanandha to Yadadri by giving him Rs 5,000 for expenses. However, Alivelu left out her eight-year-old son, who was in a deep sleep, from the suicide pact, he said.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot and examined the apartment for clues. The police found a few slogans – Do something that makes you happy, The game has started – written on the hands of Lasya and Alivelu. Before taking the extreme step, the deceased had also burnt their old clothes in their house. Noticing that, the eight-year-old boy questioned his mother and sister about their unusual behaviour. Alivelu in return admonished him and told him to stay away from them. A case was registered and further investigations are underway, the inspector said.
