Nigerian drug peddler arrested; 16 grams of cocaine seized
The accused, Okaro Cosmos Ramsey, sold the drugs to pre-identified consumers, using virtual numbers and encrypted apps like Telegram.
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW), in collaboration with the Film Nagar Police, apprehended a Nigerian national involved in drug peddling.
The authorities seized 16 grams of cocaine, a Hyundai i20 car, two cell phones, and cash amounting to Rs. 20,000, with the total worth of the seized items being Rs. 6,70,000.
The arrested accused was identified as 38-year-old Okaro Cosmos Ramsey, also known as Andy. He is a Nigerian by nationality and was staying in the Shaikpet area. He had been involved in drug-related cases in 2016 and 2018.
In 2014, Okaro Cosmos Ramsey arrived in New Delhi on a business visa and later moved to Hyderabad. He initially engaged in the cloth export business in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. In 2016, he was arrested by Golconda Police along with another Nigerian national, Abraham Jacob Ukoha, for possession of cocaine. After being released on bail, Ramsey started procuring cocaine from Obasi, a Nigerian resident of Bangalore, and began peddling drugs in Hyderabad. In 2018, he was again arrested by Golconda Excise Police for drug peddling.
According to Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing's Deputy Commissioner of Police S Rashmi Perumal, Ramsey had been procuring cocaine from his friend Obasi, who supplied the drugs in exchange for cash. Ramsey resold the drugs to pre-identified consumers, using virtual numbers and encrypted apps like Telegram to maintain anonymity and avoid police detection. Based on credible information, the HNEW team apprehended Ramsey and seized cocaine from his possession.
Rashmi Perumal urged the citizens of Hyderabad to avoid substance abuse and advised parents to monitor their children's activities to prevent them from falling prey to drugs. Information related to drug abuse can be reported to the HNEW team at 8712661601.
The arrest was made under the supervision of Rashmi Perumal by Inspectors K. Srinivas and G.S. Daniel, Sub-Inspector C. Venkata Ramulu and the staff of HNEW, along with Film Nagar Police Station SHO M. Srinivasulu and other staff of Film Nagar Police Station.
