HYDERABAD: A psychologist, who hails from Guntur, was sentenced 16 days imprisonment along with a fine for harassing female students with vulgar chats, on Saturday.
Dr. B.P. Nagesh, who was staying in a hostel in Madhapur, used to conduct counselling classes in many colleges in Hyderabad. During the classes, he used to give his number to the students saying that he would send motivational quotations and those who were interested should message him. He harassed any female student who messaged him by having obscene conversations.
However, the incident came to light when a few female students contacted the Hyderabad SHE Team. The members of the She Team, keeping the details of the students confidential, took the accused into custody and produced him before the Nampally court after the investigation.
"Great care should be taken by schools and colleges while inviting guest faculty from outside. After talking to the persons concerned, assessing their behavior and informing them of the rules to be followed , they should be selected. One must always keep a close eye on the classs room proceedings. One should also know the opinion of the students from time to time. In case of any issues, please contact the SHE team immediately," said Hyderabad SHE Team Addl Commissioner of Police A.R. Srinivas.
