PUC student dies by suicide at IIIT Basar

HYDERABAD: A first-year Pre-University College (PUC) student of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT), popularly known as IIIT-Basar, allegedly died by suicide on the hostel premises in Nirmal district on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as V Deepika, a native of Gorekal village in Kotapally mandal of Sangareddy disrtrict. Deepika appeared for the physics examination in the morning and reached the hostel. However, after going to the bathroom, she did not return for a long time, prompting fellow students to alert the university authorities. They immediately broke the bathroom doors open only to find Deepika hanging by her chunni and in an unconscious state.

She was immediately rushed to the campus health centre, where she was given first aid before she was shifted to Bhainsa Hospital. The student breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Upon receiving the information about the incident, a team of police personnel rushed to the campus. The body was shifted to Nirmal Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and further investigation is going on to ascertain the reasons that drove Deepika to the extreme step.
