Rapist of differently-abled minor girl receives sentence of 20 years

HYDERABAD: The Special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court at LB Nagar in Hyderabad on Thursday sentenced Devara Sailu, a beggar and animal hunter, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, a fine of Rs 25,000 and awarded a compensation of Rs 8,00,000 to the victim.

As per the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate release, the incident occurred on August 11, 2016, in Chippalapally village of Kandukur mandal of Rangareddy district. The motherless 14-year-old differently-abled girl was alone when the incident occurred. The accused barged into the girl’s house when her father went out and raped her.

The then Inspector Vijaykumar, now ACP at Amberpet and Inspector B Bhaskar now CI at Rachakonda followed up on the case and ensured that the culprit was convicted.
