Six killed, 20 injured as tractor overturns in Guntur district

GUNTUR: As many as six persons were killed and around 20 others were injured in a ghastly road accident in Guntur district on Monday. The mishap occurred when the tractor veered off the road and into the farm fields before overturning at Vatticherukuru.

A tractor carrying 40 persons was traveling to Jupudi in Chebrolu mandal for an auspicious event. After reaching Vatticherukuru, the tractor lost control and plunged into a canal and overturned, leaving three dead on the spot. Three others died while being shifted to hospital. It is reported that the death toll could rise further as some of the injured were stated to be in a critical condition.

The deceased have been identified as Mikkili Nagamma, Mamidi Jhansi Rani, Katta Nirmala, Garikapudi Merimma, Garikapudi Ratna Kumari and Garikapudi Suhasini, all belonging to Kondepadu of Prattipadu mandal.

The police have registered a case and are investigating it further.
