Threatened by police in civil dispute, elderly couple dies by suicide in Madanapalle
An elderly couple died by suicide by consuming poison in Madanapalle town reportedly out of fear after they were summoned by the police
MADANAPALLE: An elderly couple died by suicide by consuming poison at Anupagutta in Madanapalle town of Annamayya district on Friday reportedly out of fear after they were summoned by the police. The deceased were identified as Guttapalem Narasimhulu Naidu (70) and his wife G Venkatasubbamma (60), natives of Morusupalli Buruj in Tamballapally mandal and staying, till their death, at Anupagutta in Madanapalle town.
The tragic incident is being seen as a fallout of the local police allegedly interfering in a civil matter and calling the aged couple to the station over a complaint filed by the brother of Narasimhulu Naidu, the deceased.
According to reports, the couple was summoned to the Tamballapally police station based on a complaint filed by Narasimhulu's brother Appalla over a property dispute and were threatened.
Feeling humiliated by the treatment meted out at the police stattion and distressed at the police interference into their civil dispute, the elderly couple consumed the poison and died by suicide.
