Villagers protest on the road for drinking water in Anantapur district
Villagers blocked the road with tankers, demanding a solution to their ongoing drinking water crisis.
ANANTAPUR: Villagers took to the streets, protesting the lack of drinking water In Konakondla village of the Uravakonda constituency in Anantapur district.
They blocked the road with tankers, declaring they would not call off the protest until their water supply issue was resolved. Despite the supply of nearly 10 tankers, it was insufficient for the large village, especially during the festive season.
The situation worsened after employees of the Sri Sathya Sai and Sriramireddy drinking water schemes stopped water pumping due to their ongoing protests, which have lasted for 20 days. This left most villages in the district without drinking water. The villagers, frustrated by the government's inaction, staged a rasta roko, halting traffic.
The police requested the protesters to stop, but the villagers refused, demanding a permanent solution. After discussions, the police managed to temporarily pacify them. The villagers urged the government to address the water crisis and restore their supply immediately.
