Watchman arrested for running part-time gambling racket in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Commissioner's Task Force, Central Zone Team, Hyderabad, along with Afzalgunj police, on Tuesday night raided a gaming house in Afzalfunj, Hyderabad, apprehending 14 respondents and seizing net cash of Rs. 80,135 and sets of playing cards.

The accused, Chandi Shekar, according to the police, organised to play three card games, a game of chance, starting last week. He invited friends and well-known and unknown gamblers to the Cellar, where he played three card games on a commission basis and earned illegal money.

The organiser, who owns and operates a gambling establishment at Putlibowli, Afzalgunj in Hyderabad, works as a watchman and charges Rs. 500 as commission per game.

When all of the respondents gathered to bet money on the intervening night of October 25-26, 2022, the Central Zone Task Force Team conducted a raid on the above-mentioned premises with Afzalgunj Police and apprehended them.

Four sets of playing cards and a total of Rs. 80,135 in cash were seized from the respondents' possession during the police raid. The 14 defendants and the seized items were given to the SHO of the Afzalgunj Police Station for further action.
