Woman immolates in Tirumala, dies

TIRUPATI: In a tragic incident that happened in Tirupati on Sunday, a woman burned to death in a bathroom opposite Varahaswamy Rest House in Tirumala, causing distress in the temple city. The police suspected that the woman set herself on fire.

According to reports, the woman, identified as Sumati from Vijayawada, visited Tirumala for temple darshan. She reportedly went to the washroom on Sunday evening and set herself on fire when no one was around.

The police and TTD officials, who rushed to the spot after receiving information, examined the body. After initial investigation, the police suspected it to be a suicide. The police registered a case and further investigation was going on. However, It is yet to be ascertained whether it was a suicide or not.

Meanwhile, devotees, who witnessed the incident, expressed shock and concern. They requested the authorities to take steps to ensure such incidents do not happen again in the holy place.
