Youth arrested for theft after falling into debt due to online betting
A youth addicted to online betting was caught by Madgul police for theft to repay debts.
HYDERABAD: A young man addicted to online betting and gambling was arrested by the Madgul police after being caught committing thefts to repay his debts. The incident was disclosed during a media briefing by Ibrahimpatnam ACP K.V.P. Raju at the ACP office.
On October 7, the accused snatched a gold chain from an elderly woman near Erwen in Brahmanapalli, under the Madgul police station limits. She was at the location to collect red soil when the robbery took place.
The suspect was apprehended on Friday during a vehicle check conducted by SI Nagaraju near Madgul. When questioned, the man admitted to the theft of the elderly woman’s chain. The accused, Sattayya from Dindi Mandal in Nalgonda district, had reportedly fallen into debt after becoming addicted to online betting, accumulating Rs 20 lakh in losses over two years. To clear his debts, he resorted to theft.
The ACP advised young people to stay away from online betting and gambling to avoid ruining their lives. A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
