MANCHERIAL: A family in the Mancherial district faced disappointment when an expired Kalyana Lakshmi cheque, which had been delayed for three months, was issued.

In a shocking incident, Meghna, daughter of Jaineni Sarita and Srinivas from Edula Bandam village in Kotapally mandal of Mancherial district, was at the receiving end of government negligence. Meghna, who was married on February 23, 2023, had eagerly awaited financial assistance under the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme.

On April 3, 2024, a cheque for Rs 1,00,116 was sanctioned in Sarita's name. However, it took three long months for the cheque to be handed over to Meghna's mother, Sarita, at the beneficiary's office on a Wednesday.

Sarita's joy turned to despair when bank staff returned the cheque, citing it had expired. The family's disappointment was palpable as Sarita and Meghna expressed their grief over the authorities' failure to inform them about the cheque's readiness for three months.
