8 killed, 12 injured after APSRTC bus to Kakinada plunges into Nagarjuna Sagar right canal at Darsi

ONGOLE: As many as eight persons were killed and 12 others injured after an APSRTC bus, hired for a wedding event, crashed into Nagarjuna Sagar Right Canal in Darsi of Prakasam district.

According to the police, a bus carrying 37 passengers from Podili to Kakinada for a wedding event lost control and fell into a canal after near Darsi resulting in the death of eight people and serious injuries to 12 others. Initial reports suggest that the accident occurred due to driver's negligence.

The police, upon receiving the information, visited the accident spot and carried out rescue operations and shifted the injured to a hospital.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Aziz (65), Abdul Harm (60) Deceased: Mulla Jani Begum (65), Mulla Noorjahan (58) Deceased: Sheikh Ramiz (48), Sheikh Shabhina (35), Sheikh Hin belonging to Podili. The others have yet to identified.

Prakasam District SP Malika Garg also visited the accident spot and inquired about the way the accident occurred. A case was registered and the investigation is underway.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock over the accident. Jagan directed the officials to take measures to provide better medical services to those injured.
