ACB court dismisses house remand petition, Chandrababu Naidu to stay in Jail

VIJAYAWADA: The ACB special court on Tuesday dismissed the house remand petition filed by lawyers representing former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, accepting the argument of the CID that the security provided for the former Chief Minister at the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison was adequate and formidable.

The Judge rejected the contention of the defence lawyer that the life of Chandrababu Naidu was under threat at the Jail and that he required special medical attention and facilities which only could be provided in a homely atmosphere under the house remand provision.

Additional Advocate General (AAG) Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy told media outside the court that the Government has provided adequate security and any lacunae if found would be rectified immediately.

“If the family members found any lapses they should bring them to our notice, and under the purview of the law we shall respond and attend to it immediately,” the AAG said. He added that security was beefed up all around the Rajamahendravaram Jail and there was no basis for the anticipated threat to the life of the former Chief Minister. He added that Rajamahendravaram prison was run strictly as per the Central and State Government laws.

He also refuted allegations of the TDP ranks that Chandrababu Naidu was arrested even though his name was not figured initially in the FIR, Sudhakar Reddy said that the court goes by the revelations of the investigation not by the FIR.

However, the only relief for Chandrababu Naidu at this juncture was that the ACB court allowed his lawyers to study the documents related to the AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) case available at the SIT office in Tadepalli. The counsel for Chandrababu Naidu filed a petition for a close scrutiny of the supporting documents on Monday.
