Allu Arjun visit: EC orders action against Nandyal SP, others for violation of MCC

AMARAVATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday ordered action on Nandyal Superintendent of Police Raghuveera Reddy, SOPO Ravindranath Reddy and Inspector Raja Reddy for failing to implement the Model Code of Conduct during the visit of Cine actor Allu Arjun to the residence of YSRCP MLA candidate Silpa Ravichandra Kishore Reddy on Saturday.

The ECI directed the DGP to initiate departmental action and file charges against the said officers.

The rally that attracted thousands of fans of Allu Arjun became controversial as the organisers failed to take prior permission from the returning officer of the Assembly Constituency. However, Arjun was received from the city outskirts in the form of a big car and motorcycle rally. Police also provided extensive bandobast for the visit of the hero to the residence of the YSRCP leader.

Meanwhile, a case was booked at the Nandyal two-town police station, against Allu Arjun and Silpa Ravichandra Kishore Reddy for violating the Model Code of Conduct, while 144 section and 31-AP Act were in force.

The action was taken based on a complaint filed by Tahasildar on special duty P Ramachandra Rao. He complained that the hero failed to seek permission from the returning officer concerned before organising a massive rally in Nandyal.
