RAJAHMUNDRY: Farmers of Amaravati have announced a temporary break to the Maha Padayatra in Konaseema district in protest against police restrictions. The Maha Padayatra, which is supposed to begin from Ramanchandrapuram on Friday, was halted after the police deployed in large numbers at a function hall where the farmers stayed, asking them to show the identity cards of those participating. However, the incident led the JAC leaders to hold an urgent meeting followed by the announcement of halting the Padayatra for four days.

The farmers claimed that they would deal with the matter in court and resume the padayatra. It seems farmers are planning to approach the High Court once again.

Earlier, tension gripped as the Maha Padayatra entered Ramachandrapuram on Friday after police imposed restrictions stating that only 600 farmers could participate in the padayatra as said by the High Court.
