AP makes birth certificate compulsory for those born after October 1, 2023, for passport, Aadhar, driving license

As per orders from the Union Government, the Andhra Pradesh Government made birth certificates compulsory for those who were born after October 1, 2023 as proof of birth with immediate effect.

AMARAVATI: As per orders from the Union Government, the Andhra Pradesh Government made birth certificates compulsory for those who were born after October 1, 2023 as proof of birth with immediate effect. Notarised affidavits, SSC certificates, and other forms of proof of birth would not be accepted in Government offices.

Chief Secretary Jawahar Reddy in a statement said that a birth certificate was the only certificate that confirmed the place and date of birth of a person and now that the process of issuing birth and death certificates was made easier and available to everyone, no other form of proof would be accepted to avail passport, Aadhar, driving license, voter ID and registration of marriage. He said that an authentic birth certificate would be a must for admission to schools in Andhra Pradesh.

The Government also opened 14,752 registration centres in municipalities, hospitals, and panchayats to facilitate the registration of births and deaths. The officials were directed to issue the certificates within a week.
