AP seeks immediate division of bifurcation assets, SC issues notices
The petition also said that 91 percent of these assets were in Telangana hence the non-division would benefit Telangana
AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh Government filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday seeking immediate division of assets listed in the Schedule 9 and Schedule 10 of The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. A Supreme Court bench, comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice M M Sundresh, issued notices in this regard.
The Writ Petition, filed by Andhra Pradesh Government, said that the 87 entities listed in the Ninth Schedule and 107 institutions listed in The 10th Schedule were not apportioned between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as prescribed in the Reorganisation Act.
The petition mentioned that the total worth of assets to be divided was around Rs 1,42,601 crore. The petition also said that 91 percent of these assets were in Telangana, mainly in capital city Hyderabad, hence the non-division would benefit Telangana.
The Andhra Pradesh Government also contended in the petition that Telangana’s non-responsiveness on the division was a violation of the fundamental rights of the people of Andhra Pradesh. The delay in division of assets has jeopardised the jobs of more than one lakh people in Andhra Pradesh, the petition said. The Andhra Pradesh Government requested the Supreme Court to issue notices for the division of the entities on a priority basis.
