AP to implement wage-cut for latecomers in govt offices

AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to impose a cut in the wages of state government employees who come late to offices and show laxity in performing their duties. The state government also issued orders to this extent stating that the salary of employees who come more than 10 minutes late to the office will be cut. However, the trade unions are expressing their deep dissatisfaction with the latest order.

It is known that, in the wake of complaints about employees putting in irregular work hours in government offices, the government has introduced the facial recognition system in all offices replacing the biometrics. And now, the government has decided to enforce a salary cut for late reporting for duties. The employees, who find the wage-cut punishment unacceptable, have decided to request the department heads concerned to withdraw the decision. They also plan to represent the matter to the government subsequently.

On the other hand, the employees of a few departments are expressing concern over the latest decision saying that they had to work beyond the periphery of office hours. They are gearing up to take their objections to the higher authorities.

However, a circular has been issued to implement the attendance register system until the facial recognition system is fully implemented. The orders also stated that the attendance register in government offices should reach the head of the department concerned. The HoD is supposed to register their attendance before 10.10 and forward the internal circulars to implement the wage-cut for those who turn up late at office.
