Apex Court postpones hearing on Amaravati Capital case to December

The Supreme Court clarified that it was not feasible to conduct the investigation at present and postponed to hearing until December

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned all petitions related to Amaravati Capital case to December 2023. for a regular hearing. A special leave petition filed by the Jagan Mohan Reddy Government challenging the March 23, 2022, judgement of the Andhra Pradesh High Court which declared Amaravati as the only capital of the State.

In the previous hearing, the Supreme Court had stayed the order of the High Court, which mandated the construction of Amaravati within a six-month period. The court had also issued notices to the Center and other respondents involved in the case. However, the case was transferred to a new bench as the previous judge, Justice KM Joseph, retired.

On Tuesday, the counsel representing the State government requested the court for an immediate hearing of the case, citing the presence of constitutional bench cases until November. However, the Supreme Court clarified that it was not feasible to conduct the investigation at present and postponed to hearing until December.
