AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh State Road Transporation Corporation (APSRTC) grossed a whopping Rs 23 crore revenue in a single day on January 18 thus setting a new record in its history. The feat was possible with the State government’s decision not to hike the ticket fares of the corporation during Sankranti, in a heartening deviation from an age-old tradition.
Rejoicing the achievement, the APSRTC thanked the passengers for their enormous support and for choosing the corporation buses for their festival-time commute.
The APSRTC claims that they could get such a huge revenue due to these twin factors – the people opting for the RTC and the government refraining from hiking the fares even while the corporation ran special services. It said that the latest revenue was proof enough that people were looking up to RTC for a safe, economical and hassle-free journey.
It is learnt that the cargo services too had amassed decent figures earning Rs 55 lakhs in one day. "Providing all the necessary infrastructure for maintenance of buses, efficient management and regular monitoring of buses, arranging buses in tune with passenger rush, efforts of the staff of the organization especially the drivers and conductors has made RTC achieve this feat on this special occasion of Sankranthi," APSRTC officials said.
Stating that they would not forget the support of passengers, the officials said that they would make the same efforts to live up to the passenger's expectations.
