APSRTC to run 6,400 spl buses for Sankranthi, offers 10 pc discount on return tickets

VIJAYAWADA: Ahead of the Sankranthi season, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has announced to operate 6,400 additional buses from January 6 to 18 to meet the festive rush. In an attempt to cash in on the peak travel season, the corporation has also announced a 10 percent discount for passengers who book their return (to and fro) tickets for travel during this period.
A total of 3,120 additional buses will be operated from January 6 to 15 while another 3,280 buses will be added from January 15 to 18, said APSRTC vice-chairman and managing director Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.
Out of the total buses, 3,600 buses will be operated from Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana. Around 430 buses will be run from Bengaluru and 150 from Chennai. These special buses will be plied in addition to the regular services.
Tickets can be booked through the official APSRTC portal. According to reports, one can book tickets through the APSRTC app for available seats even after the departure of the bus. The transport corporation will also deploy officials to monitor and supervise the services.
"Comparatively, people utilising APSRTC services have increased to 68 percent from 63 percent this year. In November 2021, the corporation generated a revenue of Rs 2,623 crore which increased to Rs 3,866 crore this year," said Tirumala Rao.
