Attack on YS Jagan: NIA Court asks accused to approach Supreme Court for bail
The NIA Court advised the accused in the case of rooster knife attack on YS Jagan to approach the Supreme Court for a bail
VIJAYAWADA: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court in Vijayawada on Tuesday advised the accused in the case of rooster knife attack on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Visakhapatnam, to approach the Supreme Court for a bail. The hearing on the petition was later adjourned to July 11, 2023.
The NIA Court, while hearing the bail petition of the accused J Srinivasa Rao, expressed its inability to grant the relief in view of the cancellation of his earlier bail by the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Accordingly, it advised the accused to seek relief from the Supreme Court as per due procedure.
J Srinivasa Rao allegedly attacked YSRCP chief YS Jagan, when he was in opposition, in the VIP lounge of the Visakhapatnam airport in 2018. It may be recalled that the Andhra Pradesh High Court cancelled the bail granted by NIA Court for Srinivasa Rao in July, 2019.
On the other hand, the court also directed the counsel for YS Jagan to present his arguments in a written format before adjourning the hearing to July 11.
Srinivasa Rao’s lawyer Abdul Salim earlier made a fervent appeal to the judge that Srinivas had been languishing in jail for five years in the case. He sought the announcement of the regular schedule of the court till July 11. If not, the accused would go on a hunger strike, he said.
