Awareness on RVMs: TDP team takes part in ECI meeting in Delhi
Payyavula Keshav and Vemuri Ravikumar participated in a meeting organised by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi
NEW DELHI: A two-member team of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA consisting of Payyavula Keshav and party’s NRI wing member Vemuri Ravikumar participated in a meeting organised by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi on Monday. The ECI organised the meeting to create awareness about the remote voting machines (RVMs).
The ECI invited eight national parties and 57 state parties for the event to demonstrate the functioning of RVMs. The ECI proposed that introducing ‘remote voting’ for domestic migrants, using a multi-constituency electronic voting machine, would prove beneficial for migrant voters. It will also increase voter turnout, the ECI felt.
However, the idea of RVMs was opposed by the political parties. They cited lack of proper data on the movement of migrant workers across states as the problem area while opposing the idea. The EC, in December, 2022, developed a prototype of a remote electronic voting machine for domestic migrant voters to increase voter participation.
