AMARAVATI: Senior TDP MLA Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu took charge as the Speaker of the 16th Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

Pro-tem Speaker Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary announced the unanimous decision in the House on Saturday. The election was unanimous as only one nomination was filed.

Ayyanna Patrudu, who represents Narsipatnam constituency in Anakapalle district, has more than four decades of political experience.

He entered politics with the formation of TDP in 1983 and served as an MP once. He won from Narsipatnam seven times. He has served as the Minister of Technical Education, Sports, Roads and Buildings (twice), Forest and Panchayati Raj in five Governments.
