CBI intensifies investigation into Vizag drug container case, finds traces of six banned drugs

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is investigating the illegal transport of drugs laced with dry yeast at the Visakhapatnam port, found traces of six banned drugs inside the container originated from Brazil.

The CBI sleuths collected the samples and sent them for forensic analysis. The contraband was then shifted to another container, sealed, and set aside as evidence. The forensic report expected in a few days would nail the transport of drugs to the eastern seaport of Visakhapatnam.

On March 21, 2024, CBI detained a shipping container suspected to have narcotic drugs mixed with around 25,000 kgs of dried yeast. The entire consignment was seized and a case was booked. The CBI, acting on a tipoff received through Interpol and with the assistance of the Customs Department, detained the shipping container at Visakhapatnam Port.
