Chandrababu Naidu gets anticipatory bail in Angallu 307 case

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court granted anticipatory bail to former Chief Minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu in the Angallu 307 case on Friday.

However, Naidu would remain in jail as he has two other cases pending against him.

A case was registered against Naidu by Mudivedu Police in Annamayya district and Naidu had sought anticipatory bail in the case.

During the last hearing, the High Court had rejected Naidu's anticipatory bail petitions in three corruption cases, including the Inner Ring Road, Fiber Net, and Angallu 307 cases.

Babu's advocate Posani Venkateshwarlu argued that it the YSRCP workers who had thrown stones at the TDP leader's convoy and explained that the security was only trying to protect Babu. The advocate also presented videos of the incident as evidence. He also asked why the locals lodged a complaint four days after the incident and stated that Naidu visited the irrigation projects only after taking prior approval from the police.

The petitioner's advocate also stated that the incident was a pre-planned conspiracy to disturb the rally. He also pointed out that the High Court had granted anticipatory bail to many other accused in the same case.

After hearing the arguments from the police, Additional AG Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy stated that a former Chief Minister must have exercised caution not to instigate his supporters and acted responsibly. He also pointed out that several policemen were injured during the incident.
