Chandrababu Naidu promises support for handloom workers in Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has pledged his support for handloom workers and announced various initiatives to uplift the community.;
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu reassured handloom workers in Andhra Pradesh of his unwavering support, promising to stand by them until their lives are prosperous.
Addressing concerns about the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on handloom garments, Chandrababu Naidu announced his commitment to taking up the issue with the GST Council for its removal. He assured weavers that if unsuccessful, his government would reimburse the tax.
Speaking at the National Handloom Day celebrations at Mary's Stella College in Vijayawada on Wednesday, Chandrababu Naidu criticised the previous YS Jagan government for allegedly dismantling schemes intended for handloom workers. He outlined his government's plan to introduce reforms and support the handloom sector. Emphasising the Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) commitment to the underprivileged, Naidu announced its intention to introduce a special law for their protection.
He highlighted the allocation of Rs 1.5 lakh crore for the BC Sub Plan in the budget, underscoring his government's dedication to the upliftment of backward classes. Naidu also promised to implement 34% reservations in local body elections and strive for 33% reservations for backward classes in legislatures by advocating for a law in Parliament. He reiterated his commitment to social justice by ensuring representation for backward classes in nominated posts, citing his government's appointment of a BC speaker and the importance given to BC communities in the cabinet.
Further announcements included the provision of 16,347 jobs through the Mega District Selection Committee (Mega DSC), repealing the Land and Titling Act, and launching 100 Anna Canteens on August 15th. Chandrababu Naidu encouraged philanthropists to utilise these canteens for charitable food distribution. He also revealed plans to establish skill centres to enhance youth employability.
Chandrababu Naidu expressed his belief in the power of collective effort to eradicate economic disparities and announced a Rs 10 crore grant for the health insurance of handloom workers.
