Chandrababu Naidu taken to Rajahmundry Central Jail by road amidst high-security
It could not have been a sad occasion than this for the former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu as he was remanded to judicial custody on his 42nd marriage anniversary
VIJAYAWADA: It could not have been a sad occasion than this for the former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu as he was remanded to judicial custody on his 42nd marriage anniversary. His wife Bhuvaneswari broke into tears after she heard about the sentence by the ACB court in Vijayawada on Sunday.
A flurry of activity ensued after the Judge pronounced remand for Chandrababu Naidu. The CID filed a custody petition with the Court seeking custody of Chandrababu Naidu to further question him in detail about his role in the skill development scam. The custody petition would be taken for hearing on Monday.
The counsel for Chandrababu Naidu filed two petitions one for house arrest considering the health and another request for home food considering the specific food habits and needs of the arrested leader. However, lawyers for CID opposed the move saying that the Government would have to issue a GO converting his residence into a jail.
With the Court making it clear that Chandrababu Nadu would be jailed in Rajahmundry Central jail till September 22, police took him in a convoy amidst tight security from the ACB court at around 9.30 pm. Despite rain, Chandrababu Naidu waved at supporters waiting outside the Court before leaving for 14-day judicial custody. The Court said that it would allow home-cooked food, special staying facilities and medicines considering the age and health of the former Chief Minister.
However, the Court refused to entertain the bail petition of Chandrababu Naidu when the lawyers sought to do so. The TDP later announced that they would file a lunch motion petition at the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking bail for Chandrababu Naidu on Monday. A decision in this regard would be taken late on Sunday night, party sources said.
The police kept two alternative routes ready for the transportation of Chandrababu Naidu to Rajahmundry Central Jail. With the former CM refusing to be transported by a chopper he was taken to the Central jail by road.
