Congress ‘comedy of errors’ with YSR family in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

HYDERABAD: It is indeed comedy of errors. Not the drama of the Bard of Avon William Shakespeare. This is essentially a comedy of errors in its real sense by the Congress party.

The Congress presidents in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh seem to be playing prank with the people of the two States.

Telangana Chief Minister and PCC president Revanth Reddy launched a diatribe against former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for letting YS Rajasekhara Reddy to take away 44,000 cusses of Krishna water through Pothireddypadu head regulator. He also lambasted KCR charging him with hobnobbing with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and letting him “steal” 8 TMC ft if Krishna water annually to Andhra Pradesh.

His Cabinet collages who were at one point time disciples of the late YSR and associates of YS Jagan followed the rule of circumstantial convenience to criticise the father-son duo.

Revanth Reddy’s remark about YSR’s death were not forgotten by the people yet. However, Revanth Reddy, after becoming the TPCC chief, under compulsion had to praise the late leader many a time and pay rich tributes. His antagonism to YS Jagan is all too well known.

Irony is that he now - again under duress - acts hand in glove with Jagan’s sibling YS Sharmila. After all, she’s Revanth Reddy’s counterpart in Andhra Pradesh in his capacity as PCC president, while her brother is his counterpart in his capacity as the Chief Minister.

Sharmila, not too long ago, described Revanth Reddy as “thief”, before the Telangana elections.

Once her ‘puppeteer’ bounced the idea of her merging her party with the Congress, equations began changing towards marriage of convenience.

Revanth Reddy sufficiently, yet surreptitiously, cautioned her puppeteer to refrain from egging her on the Telangana unit of the Congress. Revanth Reddy could successfully bundle her out of Telangana and the puppeteer managed to get her become the APCC president. After becoming Telangana Chief Minister, even Revanth Reddy helped her to ascend to the presidency of a non-existent party unit in AP. Now she’s striving hard to revive the party from a shambles there.

Eschewing emotional relation she has with Jagan, she is going hammer and tongs against him with personalised attack in her campaign. A pertinent point to remember here is that she is wittingly or unwittingly working for the same goal espoused by N Chandrababu Naidu, the bête noire of the late YSR and now YS Jagan.

She is now frequently meeting Revanth Reddy, even if it’s meant for extending invitation to her son’s engagement or wedding.

Revanth is compelled to treat her with honour and also pay respects to

her late father, while criticising her brother with the proverbial bell, book and candle. As latest as on Monday too Revanth Reddy flayed Jagan.

The comedy of errors (of blowing hot on the son of the late YSR and blowing cold on the daughter of the same leader) had the complete endorsement of the Congress, for Sharmila herself was egged on her brother who is tearing him apart in her public rantings.

The dichotomy is orchestrated and the story and screenplay are scripted and directed by the Congress and two other individuals. Revanth and Sharmila are just the lead actors in the political theatre of Telugu States.
