Farmers sowing paddy, harvesting diamonds in Kurnool, each worth Rs 12-15 lakh

KURNOOL: In the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, farmers are sowing paddy with the showers of the early monsoon but are harvesting diamonds worth crores of rupees.

Farmers who had no idea about the valuation of the valuable diamonds that look no different than a small pebble had been exploited by the local traders and jewelers. These traders were on the prowl and grabbing the diamonds like hotcakes.

So far, ten diamonds had been found in a week. It was reported that the traders paid huge amounts and bought them. On a single day on Sunday, two diamonds were found by agricultural labourers in Jonnagiri.

Knowing about this, people from nearby villages and neighbouring states started visiting the village looking for the diamonds in the vast drylands of villages.

A farmer from Madanantapuram village recently found a diamond. A local trader purchased it from the farmer by paying Rs 15 lakh.

Two diamonds were found by labourers working in a field at Jonnagiri in Tuggali mandal. One of them sold one of the two diamonds for six tolas of gold and Rs 6 lakh in cash.

The second diamond which was yet to be auctioned, was estimated to fetch Rs 12 lakh.
