AMARAVATHI: T Krishna Prasad, an IPS officer who had retired in the rank of the Director-General of Police in Telangana, has been fielded by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) as its candidate from Bapatla (SC) Lok Sabha constituency to take on sittin MP from the YSR Congress Nandigam Suresh.

Krishna Prasad, who had a long career in the undivided Andhra Pradesh as a senior IPS officer, opted for Telangana cadres during the bifurcation of the State. Krishna Prasad, a 1986 batch IPS officer, served as the Superintendent of Police of Guntur, and later as Commissioner of Police of Vijayawada and also Visakhapatnam. He served as the chairman of State Road Safety Authority in the rank of the Director-General of Police in Telangana. During his service in 2017 adopted Yerravalli village in Vikarabad district, abutting Anantagiri hills. Krishna Prasad is an IIM-A graduate.

After his retirement, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and worked in the party for a long time. he angled for the BJP ticket from Secunderabad Cantonment (SC) constituency from the BJP. However, he could not get the ticket. Even as his handle on the social media platform 'X' remains "T Krishna Prasad IPS (retd) DGP (Modi ka Parivar)", his name was announced for the Bapatla Lok Sabha seat by the TDP.

Interestingly, the TDP denied ticket to one of its most loyal activist and former Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao from Nandigama constituency Nandigama Assembly seat in Krishna district. he was replaced by sitting MP Vasantha Krishna Prasad who migrated from the YSR Congress. This caused a heartburn among the TDP cadres in the constituency.
