Four arrested in Vizianagaram for killing Govt teacher

VIZIANAGARAM: The Vizianagaram Police on Sunday arrested four persons in connection with the murder of a government school teacher under Rajam Town police station limits in Vizianagaram district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Agireddy Krishna (58), a native of Uddavolu village under Therlam mandal in Vizianagaram district. He was a teacher at the government school in Kallam Rajupeta under Therlam mandal. Earlier, Krishna served as sarpanch of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) between 1988 to 1995 and now he is with YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

Disclosing the case details to the media, Vizianagaram District Superintendent of Police (SP) M Deepika said that the main accused were identified as Venkata Naidu, Mohan, Ganapati and Rama Swamy. Among them, Venkata Naidu, who was also a YSRCP leader, was the main accused and the mastermind behind the teacher's murder.

The SP said that family members of Venkata Naidu had taken up the construction works of various government projects in Uddavolu village at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. The amount was invested by Venkata Naidu's family members through taking debts from their sources. Venkata Naidu had developed a grudge against Krishna who had delayed clearing the bills and obstructing his political growth for the last two and half decades.

Irked over Krishna's behavior, Venkata Naidu, along with his friends, had conducted a recce for killing Krishna. As part of their plan, the accused murdered Krishna by mowing down him with their van and by beating him with an iron rod while he was on his way to school on Saturday morning, the SP said.

"We are requesting the villagers of Uddavolu to maintain patience. Law and order should not be misused by people, following the murder of Krishna. Police patrolling will continue to avoid untoward incidents," Deepika added.
