Governor Biswabhushan compliments AP’s welfare schemes at Republic Day 2023 fete

AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan on Thursday hoisted the national flag to mark India’s 74th Republic Day celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) in Vijayawada even as grand festivities were organised across the State.
At the official event organised by the State Government, the Governor received a guard of honour before witnessing a colourful parade. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, ministers, MPs, MLAs and a host of government officials and dignitaries attended the event.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Governor Biswabhushan commended various state government initiatives, including the provision of nutritious meals to schoolchildren through the Jagananna Goru Mudda besides Jagananna Kanuka, Amma Odi, Mana Badi and YSR Aasara pension.
He said that the State supported numerous welfare schemes even during the crippling times of COVID-19 pandemic. “Many schemes were designed to benefit farmers even as mobile veterinary clinics were also established for the well-being of animals. We are filling vacancies in hospitals and enhancing medical facilities through Aarogyasri.”
The Governor furhter said that the state was constructing nine fishing harbours. “The Andhra Pradesh administration is also working tirelessly to complete the Polavaram project. Assistance is also being provided to underprivileged women at Rs15,000 per year. Law and order in the state is entirely under control,” he added.
A tableau showcasing the development and welfare programmes of the Andhra Pradesh government was displayed during the parade at the IGMC stadium.
Earlier during the day, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy tweeted extending his Republic Day greetings to the people of the State, "On the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the coming into force of the Constitution that transformed independent India into a Republic, let us remember our founders and work hard for the development of the country," his tweet read.
With the Chief Minister present at the official Republic Day event in Vijayawada, his special chief secretary Poonam Malakondaiah hoisted the Tri-colour at a ceremony held at his residence cum camp office in Tadepalli.
Meanwhile, Senior opposition leader and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu greeted everyone on Republic Day via Twitter. "Happy Republic Day to all Indians. Let us fight with the spirit of the freedom movement to safeguard the Constitution, which is the foundation of the democratic system. Let us save democracy. Jai Hind", he tweeted.
Opposition leader and Janasena President Pawan Kalyan also hoisted the flag at the Janasena party's state office in Mangalagiri. Andhra Pradesh BJP President Somu Veeraju, along with BJP party members, hoisted the flag at the BJP office in Amaravati.
